Book Blog

I am stuck on an island for 1 month. Food and shelter is provided. There is no TV or WiFi and I am allowed to take one book. Just one. The only book I could read for a whole month. I choose the Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor book. It is the second book in the series about Magnus Chase. In these books Magnus is a half-blood which basically means that either his mum or dad is a Norse god. In particular Magnus’ dad is Frey the norse god of fertility and warmth. These books are all set in modern times and are very recent which means that there are a lot of references to things that kids do now. In all of the books the kids parents are all gods. They stay alive because of the ‘mortals’ stories that they tell about them. The reason that I would take this book is because when I am reading it I am taken away to a whole new world all about mythology. My imagination takes over and I feel like I am right there while it is all happening. I have learnt so much about norse mythology just from reading this books. I find these books so factual as well as funny. The way that these books are written you learn a lot in a way that isn’t like having facts piled on you. I find the norse mythology really interesting and I could read this book 20 times over without getting bored of it.

Mrs Nutting

I remember my first ever book from the library it was called Harry and the flying bicycle. The reason that I remember this is because Mrs Nutting helped me find my first school library book. She was the most helpful librarian. She knew everyone's name and what kind of books they would like. Our school had the most organised book fairs that any school had, in the world. Mrs Nutting got in special book shelves and covered up the current ones to make the book fairs as best as possible for all of the kids. She was so dedicated to being a librarian and helping all kids get the best experience out of reading. She even went to the extent of bringing around a shopping trolley to all of the classes when the library was closed. She knew everyone so well that when she bought the mobile library around all of the classes she had a recommended book for almost everyone at the school. As well as doing all of the books she was also in charge of all of the school uniforms and jackets so whenever there was a sports or academic tournament or competition then everyone would line up in the library to be given a jacket or shirt. Anyone that knew her would know that if you didn’t return your jacket then you were in Big trouble. She even took the time away from school to wash all of the used t-shirts and jackets. I know that I personally will miss her and every single child that goes or even has gone to Kapanui school will miss her hugely.

For me that is easy. I would meet Eden Hazard. Yet again another football related blog post but oh well. Eden Hazard is my idol. He is a professional footballer who plays for Chelsea FC and Belgium. He has amazed worldwide football fans with his amazing dribbling and shooting skills becoming one of the world's best footballers. He plays in the same positions and is everything I want to be in a footballer. He has played 284 matches for Chelsea and Lille and scored 77 goals getting many more assists. What would I say? I would say “What advice would you give me as an aspiring footballer whose dream is to play professional football for his country?” I would personally hope that he would say something more than the usual sort of generic thing like make sure that you work hard and always keep your eye on your goal etc. I would also ask how he got noticed in football because all professional footballers have to get noticed in some way whether it be youtube or a talent scout or a youth academy etc. I would ask one more thing and that would be “How much football do you play every week?” At the moment I play about 6 hours a week of football in my free time and a further 2 hours of training + My one hour game every single week, this is a combined 9 hours of football per week. I would expect a Professional footballer to do about 17-18 hours of football a week but that is also because they don’t go to school.

If you could go back to any era and why? Mine is simple. Also for a simple reason, 1960. Now, Why you ask? One word (name) Pele. Pele is arguably the best footballer ever. He set the football world alight in 1958 when he was 17 scoring, becoming the youngest player in the whole tournament and scoring 6 goals , he became the youngest ever player to score a hattrick in the FIFA world cup. He won three FIFA world cups, one in 1958, one in 1962 and one in 1970. Pele played 1363 matches in his career and scored 1281 goals making him the most successful goalscorer in world football. Ever. If I could go back to the 1960’s then I would absolutely love to meet Pele or even go watch one of his matches. Pele is one of my biggest inspirations because of the impact he made on world football. He started playing football for Santos at the age 15 and the Brazil National team at age 16. Pele’s career spanned out over 21 years. He only played for two teams, Santos and New York Cosmos, as well as playing 91 matches for Brazil. Pele is Credited with making the phrase ‘The Beautiful game’ which is widely known as footballs nickname. In 1999 Pele won the Footballer of the century award joint with Diego Maradona. This was an amazing achievement considering that his rivals in the Award were such as Ronaldo, Alfredo di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas, just to name a few. Thank you for reading my blog post.

Human's greatest invention

What is Man’s greatest Invention In my opinion man's greatest achievement was the wheel. Now, before people start disagreeing with me and getting all upset here is my evidence and proof why ,in my opinion, the wheel is humans greatest invention. Can you imagine going ONE whole day without using wheels of any shape or size? This means no car, no bike, no scooter. Even some chairs have got wheels on them! Wheels have completely changed the way that humans do things. The impact that the wheel has had is HUGE. Cars, Trucks, even some boats now have wheels! From moving yourself and other people to moving building supplies and and heavy items the wheel has completely changed the way man does things. There is all different shapes and types of wheel used in a massive variety of different things. Little wheels on the bottom of office chairs to two metre tall tractor wheels. Wheels have changed so much from the tree trunks that they used to be. The wheels on cars are now metal spokes attached to a thick metal ring with heavy rubber around it. The oldest known wheel found in an archaeological excavation is from Mesopotamia, and dates to around 3500 BC.(Mesopotamia is a name for the area of the Tigris–Euphrates river system, This is about where Iraq, Kuwait and Syria are now) and was basically a piece of tree trunk sliced up. If you have made it this far down my blog post without clicking off it, look around and see how many wheels you can see. Can you imagine trying to go one whole day without using one wheel? Thank you for reading this blog post. The wheel is, in my opinion Mankind’s greatest invention.

The importance of Hygiene, Sleep, and Nutrition

Nutrition Having good nutrition and eating healthy food is very important for your health (Obviously). Eating enough fruit and vegetables every day is very important to keep your brain working and your body properly functioning. Every day 12-18 year old boys and girls should have 300 g of fruit per day and 375 g of vegetables per day. If people don’t have enough fruit/ vegetables every day but eat other junk food then this could lead to being overweight and potentially obese. Sleeping A 12-18 year old child should get 9 ½ hours of sleep per day too function well but some can function normally on 8 1/2 . If a child doesn't get enough sleep it could stop the child learning to their best ability. I personally get about 9-10 hours of sleep on an average night and I am usually fine at school. If I get less than 7 hours of sleep I find that every little thing at school becomes a little bit harder and that it is impossible to concentrate on what the teacher is saying and focus enough to do school work to the best of my ability Hygiene I think that at all of our ages we should have a shower every one or two nights. If you don’t shower for too long then your body could start to smell. You should also have a bath or shower after any activity to do with sport. It is very important to wash off all of the sweat that is on you after you run.

Alternative to Tech Day!!

My alternative to Tech day is..................................... SPORTS DAY!!!!!

In the senior syndicate at Kapanui school we go on the computers every day. We only do class sport on a Thursday for 1 Hour, Whereas we are on the chromebooks for about 3 Hours a day on average. .What good is it doing us sitting inside all day doing work on laptops? people wonder why around 36% of Kiwi kids are overweight❓ Why do you ask❓  Kids these days get more enjoyment out of sitting on the couch playing on their PS or XBOX , rather than going outside to kick a ball or go to the park with their mates. So what harm can having one day of playing games and sports do❓
I have 11 reasons that Sport day would be better than Tech day

1.  It might help encourage sport in kids that wouldn’t normally play sport.
2. Everyone will be outside playing organised sport games.
3. It will get kids up and active for a day.
4. It might help with kids fitness, Instead of sitting down for the day on a Laptop, We will be playing sport for a day.
5. We (Kapanui school kids) use the computers all day, and do more typing than writing.
6. If everyone got to choose what sports/games we played everyone would enjoy it instead of being forced to play games that they got outvoted against.
7. We need to try something new(ish) in the day because all anyone wants to do is Tech day
8.  We can have a choice of 6 sports games all over the school, ETC Football, Touch rugby, Basketball, Netball, Hockey and Cricket.
